Why use . properties file to store xpaths, [Locators] ?, when doing so ,results in performance issues?

Was said , its efficient to store , locators in xls...

there are no performance issue.

we use properties file and not xlsx because xpaths are technical you must know selenium and java for them to change so its inside the project properties file but where as xlsx data is benign. anybody can use it.
