I created a maven project through CMD following the steps as mentioned by you. I also added the class name to be executed in the POM.xml and tried to execute it via CMD. On giving Command as "mvn exec:java" the build fails with /"The parameters 'mainClass' for goal org.codehaus.mojo:exec-maven-plugin:1.2.1:java are missing or invalid " error. However when i execute with this "mvn exec:java -Dexec.mainClass="qtp.selenium.ClasName" i see build success and correct output is also displayed. | Selenium Forum

I got to know the issue, the proplem was that in the POM.xml file i had kept the configurartion inside of execution. when i later kept the configuration outside the execution, it started working.
